Christmas Eve in LCI

Wish I knew where to begin to tell about everything that has happened in the past 12 days. I will have to do it one step at a time, but even then it will be slow and probably take a couple of days/weeks. I am sorry and hope that you will stay with me as this time goes. I will start back at Christmas and LCI before we get to the Thailand expedition.

On Christmas eve you found a jolly set of foreign teachers ready to get the day of “party” over with and the vacation started. Luckily for us the day began with a field trip to see the Korean Children’s version of Beauty and the Beast complete with Lasers and blonde wigs (note to ALL Korean’s blonde will never be your colour). Needless to say I spent most of the show trying to find some semblance of theatre “norm” as taught in my western centered world. Not that the kids didn’t love it and weren’t completely enthralled by it, but the lighting particularly was not something pleasing to a western theatrical sense. However, it was an experience worth having.

Afterwards we went back to the school and had Christmas parties for the rest of the day. My one afternoon class had asked to learn American lyrics to Christmas carols and then we caroled around the school much like I did in my French class once upon a time. Santa Matt and Santa Bill, two helpers of jolly St. Nick stopped by to deliver some presents to the kids and finally we said our Happy Holidays and went off to enjoy the vacation.

As soon as the day was done I tried to pretend it was no longer Christmas. It broke my heart to not celebrate as I wanted to, but the trip I had the chance to take made it all worth it…
