June Week 2

I really wish I knew where week 2 of June went (that is how we do our lesson plans and everything else here based on what week of the month it is).

Monday I worked on classroom decorations and went out with the boys (Terry, Liam, Chris and eventually Onaje). One the way to the restaurant (called Turtle Liquor—really!) I ran into the mom of one of my students so I had to stop and say hi and “introduced” my fellow LCI teachers.

The next day Kitty came to school and said “Teacher--You saw my mom last night?”

“Yes, I did.”

“You were with your boyfriend?”

“No, I was with Chris-teacher, Terry-Teacher and Liam-Teacher.”

“One is your boyfriend?”

“No, Kitty…”

“So boyfriends you were with. Okay Teacher.” And skipped away.

Tuesday was more preparation work for Parent-teacher conferences. And Wednesday I met up with Sarah for coffee and she went with me to get dinner at this California roll place downtown. It was fabulous; rice, pepper/sesame seeds and seaweed wrapped around cream cheese, avocado and cucumber and finally drizzled with a spicy green avocado sauce. Delicious!

Thursday was an exceptionally interesting night. Brandon decided to host a (hold-em) poker night. A week before Brandon came up and asked me if I was in/up for poker. “Hells ya” was my reply and that was all I’d heard. Then on Monday Onaje said that it was a guys only thing. I said cool Brandon must have changed his mind and that was fine. Brandon called later that evening asking if I was still in for Thursday night. I told him what Onaje had said and he said well it is, but I am including you if you want since you are not a girly girl and know how to play. “Will the others be cool with that if they are expecting a boys night?” “Who cares it is my place,” was his response so that is where I ended up Thursday night.

We brought chairs and drinks (mekju for the guys and soju for me). They ordered pizza when we arrived. There were six of us: Brandon, Matt, Onaje, Steven, Liam, Chris and I (plus Pongu who doesn’t count since she didn’t buy in). Turns out that Chris had never played before and Onaje is a hard core amateur which made for an interesting evening. $10 buy in; Onaje out first on a lucky hand from Chris who then took everyone else out— Matt, Liam, Steven, me and finally Brandon—Beginners freakin luck!

Friday was more of a relaxin thing and finishing up what I needed to get done for conferences. Saturday I looked hot and professional for the parents and “talked” to them all assuring them that their students where bright good and smart and sweet. Well, technically, Julie teacher talked to them after translating what I said from English to Korean and back again. Only one set of parents didn’t really use the Julie-teacher and several of the parents understood some English, just not enough to be without help. It was nice to get to meet them.

Afterwards I cleaned…rested and went out with Liam and Terry and eventually Onaje joined us. Wow Bar here before heading downtown and seeing Priya and Lucas and a British Chris and several new people. We danced, we drank, we got sick, we passed out, we danced some more, we threw up some more we got people home, we hung out, we were hungry (but no food)…All in all a good night. Now it is noon and I am going to do something…laundry piled up and trash to take out and E-mart to stock up on stuff…

Oh an electrician did something new again to my place so we will see what stays on and what doesn’t. Though I do hope that it is all going to stay on…Anyhoooooo Have a Swell day!
